#WhyIgetoutofbed: Ross Phillips

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Ross Phillips, I’m a designer and animator.

How are you?

I’m full of cold and there’s some people making a load of noise outside. It’s doing my head in.

 Tell us about your work
I love to design characters and then make them move, either by making tiny short films or even simple animated gifs.

Do you express yourself through creativity?
Certainly. I made this animation called ‘Esc’ when I was having a really boring day at work.

What was the last thing you created?
The last commercial thing I made was a short film about the future of public transport. The last non-commercial thing was this walking broccoli.

What has inspired you of late?
All the stuff bubbling over at Late Night Work Club

What Are you reading/watching/listening to at the moment?
I’m currently wading through Building Stories by Chris Ware. Music wise I’m really loving everything by Elite Gymnastics. And I’m watching videos of goats yelling like humans on Youtube.

Why do you get out of bed in the morning?
Lately I’d be quite happy staying in bed watching everything on Netflix, but there’s bills to pay! I’m very lucky to say that I love my job, and even on the bad days I know I’d still rather be doing this than anything else. Although in the future I do hope to outsource all of my work, that way I can get back to watching Breaking Bad.
